Best Mangal 1996

Last updated: 20 October 2026

1. Who we are

This policy explains how Baris 2003 Limited, trading as Best Mangal 1996 ("Best Mangal 1996", "we", "us" or "our") collects and uses your personal information. We are registered in England and Wales (company number 13239779) and run the Best Mangal 1996 restaurant at 66 North End Road, London W14 9EP, which is also our registered office.

We are the "controller" of your personal information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). This means we decide how and why your information is used. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number ZB447086.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email us at info@bestmangal1996.com, call 020 7602 0212, or write to us at the address above.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies when you:

  • visit our website at bestmangal1996.com (the "Website");
  • use the Best Mangal 1996 mobile app (the "App");
  • place an order for collection or delivery through our Website or App;
  • make a booking with us;
  • sign up to our emails, download our cookbook, create an account, or leave a rating or review on our online menu;
  • contact us by email, phone, social media or through a form on our Website or App (for example about catering or private events); or
  • visit the restaurant.

What this policy does not cover. If you order from us through Deliveroo, Uber Eats or Just Eat, those companies collect and control your information under their own privacy policies. We only receive what we need to prepare your order. If you book through OpenTable, OpenTable's own privacy policy also applies. Reviews you leave on Google or other third-party sites are governed by those sites' policies.

3. The information we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details: your name, email address, phone number and, for deliveries, your delivery address.
  • Account details: if you create an account, your login details and any optional details you choose to add, such as your birthday or a profile photo. If you sign in using a third-party service (such as Google, Apple or Facebook) where this option is offered, we receive the basic profile information that service shares with us.
  • Order and booking details: what you order, when, how much you pay, collection or delivery details, booking details (date, time, party size), and any notes you add.
  • Allergy and dietary information you choose to give us, for example with an order or booking (see Section 6).
  • Payment information: payments are processed securely by our payment provider, Square. We never see or store your full card number. We only receive limited details such as the card type, the last four digits and confirmation of payment.
  • Reviews and content: ratings, reviews and photos you post on our online menu, and survey or feedback responses.
  • Communications: messages you send us, your marketing preferences, and whether you open our marketing emails.
  • Technical and usage information: your IP address, device type, browser, operating system, pages and screens you view, how you arrived at our Website, and crash reports from the App. We also use your approximate location (such as town or city), worked out from your IP address.
  • CCTV footage: where CCTV is in operation in and around the restaurant, it is used for the safety of customers and staff and to prevent crime. Signs show where cameras are in use.

4. Where we get your information

  • From you, when you order, book, create an account, sign up for marketing or our cookbook, leave a review or contact us.
  • Automatically, through cookies and similar technologies when you use our Website or App (see Section 11).
  • From service providers we use, such as our booking provider (OpenTable), our payment and till system (Square) and our online ordering platform (Popmenu), when you use those services to deal with us.

5. How we use your information and our legal reasons

UK law requires us to have a valid legal reason (a "lawful basis") for each way we use your information. These are:

  • Taking, preparing and delivering your orders; managing bookings; sending order and booking confirmations and updates – Information used: Contact, order, booking and payment details – Lawful basis: Contract: we need it to provide what you asked for
  • Running your account – Information used: Account details – Lawful basis: Contract
  • Preparing food safely around allergies you tell us about – Information used: Allergy and dietary information – Lawful basis: Explicit consent (see Section 6)
  • Sending marketing emails about our menu, offers and events, and sending you our cookbook when you sign up for it – Information used: Contact details, preferences, order history – Lawful basis: Consent, or for existing customers our legitimate interests where the law allows (see Section 7)
  • Personalising offers, for example suggesting dishes you have ordered before – Information used: Order history and preferences – Lawful basis: Legitimate interests: offering customers relevant dishes
  • Replying to enquiries, feedback and complaints – Information used: Contact details and communications – Lawful basis: Legitimate interests: running good customer service
  • Showing your ratings and reviews on our online menu – Information used: Reviews, display name, photo – Lawful basis: Consent: you choose to post them
  • Measuring and improving our online adverts (for example seeing whether a Google advert led to an order or booking) and showing our adverts to people who have visited our Website – Information used: Cookie and device identifiers, pages visited, orders and bookings made – Lawful basis: Consent: given through our cookie banner
  • Understanding how our Website and App are used, fixing problems and improving them – Information used: Technical and usage information – Lawful basis: Legitimate interests; consent where cookie law requires it
  • Preventing fraud, keeping our systems secure, and keeping customers and staff safe (including CCTV) – Information used: Technical data, order and payment data, CCTV – Lawful basis: Legitimate interests: protecting our business, customers and staff
  • Keeping accounts and tax records, and meeting other legal duties – Information used: Order and payment records – Lawful basis: Legal obligation

Some of our routine marketing emails are scheduled and sent automatically, and some marketing content is drafted with the help of automated and AI tools. We do not make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects using only automated means.

6. Allergy and dietary information

Information about allergies or dietary needs can reveal details about your health or religious beliefs. UK law treats this as "special category" information, so we handle it with extra care.

  • If you tell us about an allergy with a specific order or booking, we use it only to prepare your food safely, and it is kept with that order record.
  • If you choose to save allergies or dietary preferences to your account, you give us your explicit consent to use them to tailor your orders. You can remove them at any time, and this does not affect how we used them before.

Please always tell our staff about any allergy when you order, even if it is saved on your account.

7. Marketing and our cookbook

We will only send you marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them, or if you have bought from us before and did not opt out when we offered you the chance. In that case we will only tell you about our own similar food, offers and events.

If you sign up to receive our cookbook, you are also signing up to our marketing emails, and we will tell you this clearly when you sign up. You can unsubscribe at any time and keep the cookbook.

  • Every marketing email has an "unsubscribe" link.
  • If we send marketing text messages, you can reply STOP to any of them to opt out. You never have to agree to marketing to buy from us.
  • You can also opt out at any time by emailing info@bestmangal1996.com.

Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages, such as order confirmations, booking reminders and delivery updates. We send those because you asked for the order or booking.

We never sell your information, and we do not share your contact details or marketing consent with other companies for their own marketing.

8. Who we share your information with

We share your information only where needed, with:

  • Popmenu, Inc. (US), which runs our Website, App, online menu, online ordering and marketing tools. Popmenu processes your information on our behalf. It also uses some of this information for its own purposes as an independent business, for example to operate, improve and market its own services and to analyse trends in the restaurant industry. Popmenu's own use is covered by its privacy policy at my.popmenu.com/privacy.
  • Square, our payment and till provider, to process payments.
  • OpenTable, our booking provider, to manage bookings.
  • Uber (Uber Direct), to deliver orders placed through our Website or App. We share your name, delivery address, phone number and order details so the courier can deliver your order, and Uber may contact you by text with live tracking updates.
  • Google, which provides our advertising (Google Ads). If you accept advertising cookies, Google receives information about your visit to our Website so we can measure our adverts and show them to people who have visited us. Google also uses this information under its own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
  • Other service providers who help us run the business, such as Google (business email and website analytics), email providers, IT support, and our accountant. These providers may only use your information to provide services to us.
  • Authorities and advisers, where we must by law (for example HMRC or the police), or where needed to protect the rights, safety or property of our customers, staff or business.
  • A buyer or successor, if all or part of our business is sold, restructured or transferred.

9. Transfers outside the UK

Some of our service providers, including Popmenu and Google, are based in or store data in the United States or other countries outside the UK. When your information is transferred outside the UK, we make sure it is protected by an approved safeguard. This can be a UK government "adequacy" decision (including the UK–US data bridge for certified US companies), or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. You can contact us for more details.

10. Ratings, reviews and public content

Ratings and reviews you post on our online menu are public, and may appear with your display name and photo. Please don't include anything in a review that you don't want to be public. Reviews are stored on Popmenu's platform and may stay visible there as described in Popmenu's privacy policy. You can ask us to remove a review at any time.

11. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files placed on your device that help our Website and App work and help us understand how they are used. We use:

  • Essential cookies, which make the Website and App work (for example keeping you logged in and remembering your basket). These do not need your consent.
  • Preference cookies, which remember settings such as your language. You can switch them off at any time.
  • Analytics cookies, from providers such as Google Analytics, which count visits and show us how people use the Website and App. Where these are used only to produce statistics for improving our service, we will give you a simple way to opt out. Otherwise we will ask for your consent first.
  • Session recording, which, where used, records how you interact with our ordering pages (such as clicks and scrolling, but never payment card details) to help us fix problems. We only use this with your consent.
  • Advertising cookies, from Google Ads, which help us see whether our adverts lead to orders and bookings, and let us show our adverts to people who have visited our Website. We only use these if you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. You can say no, and it won't affect your use of the Website.

You can change your choices at any time through the cookie settings link on our Website, or by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the Website may not work properly without essential cookies.

12. Our App

In addition to the rest of this policy:

  • Permissions: the App may ask to send you notifications. You can turn notifications and other permissions on or off at any time in your device settings.
  • App data: the App automatically records information your device sends, such as the device model, operating system, settings and how you use the App, plus crash reports if something goes wrong. We use this to run and improve the App.
  • Deleting your account: you can delete your account from inside the App, in your account or profile settings. You can also email us at info@bestmangal1996.com. Some information may be kept afterwards where we must keep it by law (see Section 13).

13. How long we keep your information

We keep your information only as long as we need it:

  • Order, payment and transaction records – How long we keep it: 6 years after the end of the financial year, as required by HMRC
  • Your account and preferences – How long we keep it: Until you delete your account, or after 2 years of inactivity
  • Allergy information given with an order – How long we keep it: Kept with that order record
  • Marketing preferences – How long we keep it: Until you unsubscribe. After that, we keep a note of your opt-out so we don't contact you again
  • Enquiries and complaints – How long we keep it: Up to 2 years after the matter is closed
  • Website and App analytics – How long we keep it: Up to 14 months
  • CCTV footage – How long we keep it: Up to 30 days, unless needed to investigate an incident

When we no longer need your information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

14. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to restrict how we use your information;
  • object to us using your information based on our legitimate interests, and to stop marketing at any time;
  • receive information you gave us in a portable format, or have it sent to another organisation (data portability); and
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent. This does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

To use any of these rights, email info@bestmangal1996.com. It is free. We may need to confirm your identity first, for example by checking the email address or phone number linked to your orders. We will respond within one month. For complex requests this can be extended by up to two more months, and we will tell you if so. Some rights have legal exceptions. If one applies, we will explain why.

15. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first at info@bestmangal1996.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and let you know how we are handling it.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or 0303 123 1113.

16. Children

Our Website and App are not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

17. Keeping your information safe

We and our service providers use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is completely secure, so please keep your account password safe and tell us straight away if you think someone has accessed your account.

18. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on our Website and in the App, with the "last updated" date at the top. If we make important changes, we will let you know, for example by a notice on our Website or App or by email.
